1979 DiMarco Runner Bottom
- SOLD!
Be King of Your Lake!
I don't use the word rare very often but in this case, to find a Vintage Dimarco
18 ft. race/ski boat that is in such Perfect Original Condition that it appears to
have never been in the water and is in fact one of Ralph (Sonny) DiMarco's final
creations from back in the Great Days of performance boat racing when Sonny
was King and he and his hulls were Winning Championships repeatedly, is by
all means Very Rare.
In addition to that, this particular boat was Special Ordered and built by Sonny
DiMarco himself and was delivered in June of 1979. All of the rigging, engine
and V drive installation was also done by Sonny and that in itself is quite unusual
as Sonny liked to concentrate on his hulls. Usually in this class of boat the particular
racer/owner would outfit the hull but Sonny did this one just as he would have done
for himself and the Custom Hardware and Rigging is stunning. This is a 7/8" runner
bottom and that in itself makes this a great boat, plus it was laid up with the highest
quality in materials and workmanship. Dimarco, never cut corners, only the best for
all of his customers!
This beautiful Creation remains in the hands of its original owner who special ordered
and monitored its build back in 1979 and it has been very carefully cared for and stored
inside at all times ever since. Always thought to be of Collectible Status this boat
was never run hard or put away wet and also only run in lake water. It gained its
collectible status almost immediately when Sonny DiMarco sold his molds in late
1979 just after this boat was finished and started to wrap up his boat building business
in Sylmar CA. This is quite possibly the last strait deck boat built by Sonny The hull
ID# on this vessel represents "DiMarco" with its "DEB" prefix, we know that the last
couple boats that he sold had a "DEV" (DEVER) Hull ID.
The finish on this boat is without exception, The Original Gel Coat is truly remarkable
with no scratches or cracks and a sharp color scheme that is clean and crisp looking
with great colors and is not gaudy or ostentatious like most from this period.
The four place seating has Diamond Tuck and Roll with piping that is color keyed to
the exterior.
This boat represents the end of an era. A period of about 20 years when the sport
of Competition Boat Racing came of age with great achievements in hull design and
technology. A time so rich with innovation that this hull design is still in demand today
and In fact there are companies that are now reproducing hulls from this period. But
still reeling from the gas crisis of 1973 the sport was getting too expensive for most
and by 1980 the Hey Days were over. This Boat was Special Ordered by someone
who wanted to save a material piece of that era and this fine craft truly represents
that period.
